A casual conversation during a visit to her dentist, prompted Annelle Pretorius to consider dentistry as a career. She obtained her BchD degree in dentistry from the University of the Western Cape in 2016 and says it was hard work but well worth it. In 2017, she completed her community service year in Calvinia and then started working at a private practice in Vredenburg until 2020. That is when she joined the team at the BayCare Medical Centre in Hartenbos.
Anelle is sensitive to the fact that most people dread going to the dentist. That is why she places a high premium on making her patients feel comfortable and safe. She believes creating a warm and friendly atmosphere, goes a long way in eliminating some of the anxiety people experience when visiting a dentist. Anelle knows that many dental problems can be avoided when patients follow a good daily routine. In her experience, a simple step, such as flossing of teeth, is often neglected, or not done correctly.
When Anelle is not taking care of her patients, she enjoys relaxing in nature. She credits her regular jogging sessions or leisurely walks along one of the beautiful beaches in the area, for a good work-life balance. Anelle is a relationship-oriented person and prioritizes time to visit with family and friends.
“Due to very long hours behind my desk, mostly working on a computer, I experienced regular, painful muscle spasms and joint pain – especially in my neck, shoulders and lower back. During previous physiotherapy sessions, I found the treatments rather painful. So I usually waited until the pain was really bad. After visiting Mieneke Middel for the first time, my perception of physiotherapy changed dramatically. The treatment was given in the most gentle, caring way. I was pleasantly surprised with the tremendous relief from the dry needling therapy that Mieneke used. She also gave me valuable information about the correct posture while working, and even wrote a motivation to my employer, asking them to buy me a specifically shaped typist chair. After our treatment session, Mieneke demonstrated a few simple, yet highly effective stretches to prevent and self-treat muscle spasms. Well Mieneke, your advice is so helpful! Bad for your business, but great for my body! I highly recommend the expert physiotherapy services of Mieneke Middel.”
